Fikelela
Fikelela
Fikelela is an initiative of the Diocese of the Church of the Province of South Africa and it is aimed at reaching out to those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. This project was started so that real people can be reached with practical, caring and loving acts of kindness.
St Thomas’s Church has embraced Fikelela since its inception and has an active Task Team with the help of Parish Council that organises and co-ordinates various projects. Recently it was decided to send the monthly donation of R10 000 to the Fikelela Child and Youth Care Centre in Khayelitsha to be used for the children’s education.
WEEKLY SANDWICH MAKING – parishioners bring made up loaves of bread that are distributed via Ladles of Love to Old Age, Shelters and Children’s homes.
TEDDY BEARS FOR HOSPITALS – these knitted teddy bears are mostly distributed to Somerset Hospital at the Waterfront (and sometimes to Red Cross Children’s Hospital) and are given and received with much love for healing and comfort of sick children.
RECYCLED CARDS, 2nd HAND BOOKS AND JAMS – are sold to contribute funds towards the monthly food parcel project.
A new ministry has been formed to help children with their AFTERNOON HOMEWORK AT THE MARSH MEMORIAL HOMES in Rondebosch.
We welcome all new volunteers and contributions. Please contact the parish office for more details and contact persons.
